Coquimbo Region

This is what Coquimbo Region - “The Star Region”- offers to its visitors, a unique interaction between the Pacific coast and the crossing valleys, crowned by the Andes and the most transparent skies in the world.
It is also possible to enjoy sanctuaries such as Fray Jorge National Park and the Humboldt Penguin Natural Reserve and Las Chinchillas Reserve where millenary forests and protected species can be found. Moreover, there are natural monuments and sites of paleontological interest and specially good for adventure tourism such as Pichasca Natural Monument
The 4th region of Coquimbo or Coquimbo region is one of the fifteen regions in which Chile is political and administratively divided. The northern border is the Atacama Region and the Valparaiso Region is at the south, the west border is the Pacific Ocean and at the east, the San Juan Province in Argentina is located.
It has a surface of 40 579,9 km² and in 2015 its population was of 771 085 inhabitants. The region has three provinces: Elqui, Limarí and Choapa, and the regional capital is the city of La Serena.
